White Rock here we come!

Sanders and I are officially signed up to run the Dallas White Rock Half Marathon again! We had so much fun doing it last year that we felt the urge to do it again. We also thought it would be a good way to get back in the shape we were in last year after we ran it. Per the training schedule, today is the first day we are supposed to start training even though we've both been doing short runs the past few weeks. I don't know if we'll beat our time from last year of 1:40 but we'll try.

Here are some pictures from last year to get us motivated

Colorado Springs Trip

Sanders and I just returned from a fabulous trip to The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. He had the annual SAO meeting there so it was a great excuse to get away. We left on Wednesday and didn't come home until Sunday so we had 5 days of total rest and relaxation - which we desperately needed. The hotel was great because it had everything there you could possibly need - great restaurants, a gym, spa, shopping, pool etc. We pretty much did it all - we slept late, went hiking, got massages at the spa, exercised, laid by the pool and ate some great meals. Our main goal was to come back rested and ready for our crazy kids - which we definitely accomplished. I think it would be a great place to bring the kids back one day.

Here are some pictures from the trip:

Our hotel

The main building

The west side. The buildings were separated by a gorgeous lake

the pool. It was an infinity pool that overlooked the lake

We wanted to go hiking on Friday so we asked our concierge where to go and she suggested this trail that you could walk to from the hotel. So we put on our tennis shoes, packed the backpack with the essentials and set out on our adventure.

we found a nice man walking by that took our picture

The "mule" deer are commonly seen around the area and don't run off when they see you. We got pretty close to this one

The start of our hike up the mountain. The top was 7200 ft elevation

All of the surroundings were beautiful

About half-way up. You can see the city behind Sanders

Almost to the top. You can see Seven Falls behind Sanders which is a beautiful waterfall.

At the top! Found another nice couple to take our picture

this is a picture of our hotel - which we walked from to get here. It looked so far away!

Sanders near the edge which made me nervous!

a picture of the road below us. It was a long way down!

we made it back down to the bottom

relaxing by the pool

On Saturday we ventured out to see the Garden of the Gods which is a registered National Natural Landmark of these beautiful rock formations. It was a 6 mile trail around the park which we ran some and walked some. I preferred the walking due to the rocky trails and uneven paths but I tried to keep up with Sanders.

this was called the "kissing camels"

Mae's 2nd Haircut

I took Mae today to get her 2nd haircut! We went to Super Cuts on Youree Drive which was surprisingly nice and clean inside. Mae was so excited about getting her haircut. She had been talking about it all day long. I was very impressed that she sat still the entire time. She took it very seriously. We didn't get too much cut off b/c I love her long hair but just enough so the ends didn't look scraggly anymore. It looks so cute!

Here are a few pictures . . .

My babies in glasses

I am FINALLY getting around to posting some pictures of Mae and Sanders in their glasses. I haven't been avoiding it - I've just haven't had a chance to sit them both down in their glasses for a picture. I really haven't had a hard time with Sanders wearing glasses like I did when I found out Mae had to wear them. I also think I've accepted that this is the challenge God has given us in life and if this is what we have to overcome than this is nothing compared to what other people are going through. Our kids our healthy, smart and beautiful and it is more than I could have ever asked for. I know the glasses are just a small bump in the road and in a few years they can both get contacts and eventually lasik surgery and we'll look back at the "glasses" as such a small event in our life. And really Little Sanders does look cute in them and you can barely tell he has them on. He has been great about wearing them at school all day. I bribed him the first few days and told him I'd buy him a train from Toy Fair and that seemed to work great b/c he has worn them everyday since then. It is such a relief because I was so worried about how he would handle wearing them in front of his friends and how they would react to him wearing them but everything has gone great. His friends all think they are "cool". He still seems to look under the glasses instead of looking through them but I think he gradually get used to them. I just hope the glasses work so we don't have to do the patch. I think that would be a nightmare with him. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this fixes things!

Here are some pictures of my babies both wearing glasses . . .

not the best picture of them but they've both got their glasses on
